The Basics About Mold Allergies
Mold AllergyFor those of us to are fighting allergies, it seems the number of causes of allergies that might be making you feel so badly are enormous.  It is almost a relief when you realize that your allergy is to pollen, ragweed or some "common" allergen that lots of people have to deal with.  But the most important thing we can do to begin to fight back against allergies is to learn what is causing the problem and get that allergen out of our lives once and for all.

A lot of allergies are caused by things we encounter at home or in the yard.  If allergies are a problem, turning to the home and getting on a cleaning kick is not a bad move.  One great step that may address a number of potential allergens is to make sure the air in your home is pure and filtered well.  Dust, dust mites and pet hair can put allergens in the air to give you trouble.  But one allergen that is also a part of your home even if you don’t know it is mold.

An allergy to mold can produce some serious and even disturbing symptoms.  Allergic reactions to mold in the home might cause a rash, unexplained body aches, headaches, difficulties breathing and even depression or general feeling of being in a mental fog.  It is regrettable when we diagnose these symptoms as something else when simply taking charge of the mold problem in the home could clear up your mold allergy and return you to a healthy state quickly.

One clue that it is a mold allergy that is causing some of these unusual symptoms is that mold allergy sufferers general experience their worst symptoms at times of the year when decomposition or organic matter generates mold.  So fall can be a time when there are mold spores about because of rotting leaves.  Spring is also a time when mold spores are abundant because the warmer air encourages decomposition and the spring breezes bring the mold spore to us to set off an allergic reaction to mold.

If you suspect that mold is causing allergy problems, first look to the areas of the home where there is a lot of humidity such as closets, the attic or a basement.  If there is a leak in a pipe under the house, mold can grow down there and the spore come up into the home and make an allergy sufferer miserable.  Take care to throw out any foods that are not fresh because mold from aging food can create spores that will set off allergic symptoms of a mold allergy.

If your mold allergy problems persist, it may be necessary to get some professional help to clean your vents and get into those out of the way areas of the home to clean out any mold that is growing there.  Get some help from your doctor in diagnosing the mold allergy before you to go a big effort that may mean significant repairs to your home.  But if a mold allergy is making you or a member of the family miserable, getting all sources of mold out of the home is worth the time and expense to make those allergy symptoms go away as well.
