It is not an exaggeration to say that allergies represent one of the most common health problems we will experience. Almost all of us have had some form of allergic reaction or ongoing allergy problem at some time or another. And many people suffer with allergies virtually every day. If you have not struggled with allergies yourself, the odds are high that someone in your family has. Dealing with allergies is even more common than havin g to suffer through a common cold or the flu. It is much more likely than just about any injury. The pervasiveness of allergy problems in society is so widespread that a billion dollar industry exists just to provide over the counter drugs to try to reduce the effects of allergies for those who suffer with the problem routinely. The effects of allergies is also widespread. Allergic reactions can range from a mild rash to a life-threatening incident. Allergies can dramatically alter what you eat, what you wear, where you live in the country and whether you can enjoy the companionship of a pet. Restaurant owners have to be conscious of allergic reactions to food in their patrons. I recently went to a play where allergy warnings had to be posted to alert theater goers of a potential allergy threat to their health because the actors would have peanuts on stage. That is just how deeply the problem of allergies has spread into every aspect of our lives.
There is an old joke about a man who goes to the doctor and then lifts his arm above his head and crooks the arm. The man then complains, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this. What should I do?" The doctor then responds, "Don't do that."
Its an old joke but when it comes to cures or ways to deal with allergies in our lives, the variety of approaches is almost as diverse as the number of allergies. From diagnosis to preventative medicine to home cures to medical breakthroughs, we need a central resource to learn all we can about allergies and what we can do about them when they invade our lives. In any army and in any war, knowing your enemy is one of the big keys to winning the battle. That principle is very much true in our fight to win against the enemy of allergies in our lives. Its a multi-front battle. Its important we know what we are up against. An allergy can disguise as a disease. But the treatment is very different. Our goal is to arm you with the most important weapon you can have when dealing with allergies. That weapon is knowledge. Knowledge is the reason this website exists. It exists to help you understand what allergies are and the nature of the specific allergy that is facing you or your family. It exists to help you understands the symptoms of that allergy and how those symptoms are different from illnesses so you know what to do to help the one you love or to help yourself put that allergy on the run. And it exists to put every possible solution for the allergy problem you have at your disposal.
This website does not exist to replace proper medical care. If anything, the information we have for you is here to make your use of medical resources more effective.
